Crab Orchard ? Catfish action has been good near Wolf Creek Road. Cut bait and shad have been the primary baits. Some bluegill are being caught on crickets and wax worms. Crappie and bass are being caught in the refuge ponds.
Horseshoe Lake ? The lake is several feet over pool. The spillway road is closed due to high water. Fishing traffic has been light because of high water. Some anglers were taking some catfish last week on night crawlers.
Kinkaid Lake ? The lake is still high and muddy. Some anglers are catching a few crappie. Most fish had been holding in 20-30 feet, although in the last few days some fish have also moved up to 15-20 in the back of coves. Minnows are the best bet. Muskie action had also been good before the water came up. Catfish action had been good during the rains.
Lake Murphysboro ? Crappie action has picked up in the past few days, although fish are still scattered at varied depths. Other species are slow.
Lake of Egypt ? The lake is still high and muddy from recent rains. Bass action has been fair. It took 17 pounds to win a recent bass tournament. Most fish are still being taken in deep areas.
Little Grassy ? The Little Grassy Campground and Marina will re-open April 1.
Rend Lake ? The water temperature is about 46 degrees and the lake is more than three feet over normal pool. Channel catfish action is excellent on stink bait, cut shad liver and night crawlers. The best action has been near bridges, Gun Creek, Jackie Branch and other locations were water current is visible. Crappie are rated fair on minnows and shad-colored jigs around bridge pillars and near main channels.
