CARBONDALE - The Southern Illinois University 2008-09 basketball recruiting class remains incomplete.
Wednesday was the first day recruits could sign letters of intent. The Salukis are expecting to sign Eugene Teague Jr. and John Freeman during the signing period.
Teague is a 6-foot-8, 285 pound power forward who averaged 20 points and 13 rebounds for Living Faith Academy in New Jersey this year. A Vineland, N.J native, Teague originally planned to attend South Florida out of high school, but failed to qualify academically.
SIU received a verbal commitment from Teague on Easter Sunday.
Freeman, a 6-5 wing player from Vincennes University, averaged 14.2 points per game and shot 42.5 percent from 3-point range last year. He verbally committed to SIU earlier this year.
SIU associate head coach Rodney Watson said SIU received a letter from Freeman Wednesday, but the letter lacked needed information from the NCAA. Watson said he didn't expect the matter to be cleared up Wednesday night.
If the Salukis sign Teague and Freeman, they will join Kendal Brown, a 5-9 point guard from William Henry Harrison High School in Evansville, Ind., Drew Barham, a 6-6 guard from Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, Tenn., and Jordan Myers, a 6-8 power forward from Forest Park High School in Ferdinand, Ind.
Brown averaged 15.4 points per game and 5.3 assists last year. Barham averaged 15 points and 6.5 rebounds and Myers averaged 17 points and eight rebounds per game.
If SIU signs Teague and Freeman the Salukis will have one more scholarship remaining.
Another new face at SIU next year will be guard Tony Freeman. Freeman sat out last season after transferring from the University of Iowa.
