HARRISBURG - A town hall meeting in Harrisburg tonight aims to get the facts out about the right to carry concealed weapons in Illinois.
Voters in 14 counties, including Saline, Franklin, Jefferson and Union in Southern Illinois, will have the opportunity to vote on a "conceal and carry" advisory referendum in November.
The referendum is not binding, but asks whether state legislators should bring the issue to a vote in Springfield.
The town hall meeting was organized by Wade Fulbright, an NRA and Illinois Rifle Association member, who wants to get information out on how such legislation will affect the state's residents.
Speakers include Valinda Rowe of www.illinoiscarry.com, state Rep. Brandon Phelps, D-Harrisburg, and George Henley, a retired sheriff.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Lions Club, located at 1400 S. Main St. in Harrisburg.
