WEST FRANKFORT - A former West Frankfort man was shot and killed in what appears to have been a home invasion and robbery at his home in Venezuela, according to family members.
Herman and Theresa Bandera were searching for answers Tuesday about the death of their son 54-year-old son, James Bandera, who lived in Anaco, Venezuela.
Herman Bandera said the family had been notified that James Bandera was shot to death in his home during an attempted robbery, but he couldn't comment on any particulars as the family continued to search for answers.
"All I know is they shot him," Herman said. "They were trying to rob him. We are working on it and trying to find out what is going on."
Theresa Bandera said James Bandera had been living in Anaco for about eight years. His father said he was in the oil business.
The parents said James Bandera frequently traveled to visit family in the United States, including a trip in April for his mother's 80th birthday.
Survivors include his parents and two daughters.
