Wet weather meant some Southern Illinoisans got their fireworks Saturday night, and some will have to wait.
Marion residents enjoyed one of the firework displays in the area Saturday with relatively cool weather and only a few clouds.
"I'm just glad the weather cleared up and we could come out and enjoy the night," said Joshua Crain of Marion.
Crain came to the fireworks near St. Joseph Catholic Church with his wife, Gina, and children, Savannah Sheffler and Nick Nigro.
Gina said the family checks out fireworks displays at different locales every year. Last year they saw fireworks at Lake of Egypt and the Southern Illinois Miners game.
Savannah, 6, is not a fan of the loud booms, but she was y pleased by the explosions in every color imaginable and in intricate shapes.
"I want to see one go up and make hearts," she said.
Kelse Buckner, 4, of Creal Springs came with her family, Joey Crawford, Detsonie Davis and her brother, six-year-old Kaden. Kelse said her favorite part of the holiday is seeing the fireworks and the smoke bombs. Kaden just likes the sound.
"I like them when they go up and pop," Kaden said.
Fireworks organizers at Rend Lake and Lake of Egypt also decided not to go ahead with their events.
