CARBONDALE - Southern Illinois University Carbondale has officially begun its search for a new chancellor with the launch of an advertising campaign and a new Web site.

The chancellor search committee, co-chaired by associate law professor Thomas Britton and psychology professor Peggy Stockdale, began placing advertising in four national higher education publications - the Chronicle of Higher Education, Diverse Issues in Education, Women in Higher Education and the Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education magazine - last month.

The advertisements will appear again in each publication's August issue and will remain on their Web sites for several months. Britton said the committee is attempting to cast as wide a net as possible.

"We are developing a list of people who may be interested in the position," Britton said. "This is a remarkable list, which supports our goal of having a diverse pool of applicants."

Information about the search process, the position description, members of the search committee, timelines and other details is available at www.siuc.edu/chancellorsearch/searchcommittee.html.

This fall, the committee will examine candidates' academic credentials, work experience and background. The committee will also conduct interviews with select candidates at an off-site location.

Britton said the committee expects to bring finalists to campus in early 2010.
