SPARTA - A Sparta physician is free on bond following his arrest on sexual assault, aggravated battery and unlawful restraint charges.

Dr. Frantz Charles, 61, of Sparta was arrested on Dec. 29 at around 2:30 p.m. after the Sparta Police Department received a complaint filed by the victim, a a female employee at the Sparta Community Hospital

Sparta Police Chief Tom Ashley said the complaint cited "touching of an assaulting nature" and allegations that Charles kept the woman from leaving the room in which the assault allegedly occurred. "She was not physically injured," he said.

Charles posted bond and was released from the Randolph County Jail.
