Body in Giant City was missing Oswego man; died of self-inflicted gun shot wound

UNION COUNTY -- A missing Oswego man was identified Thursday as being the body found in Giant City State Park on Monday.

Ralph Constantine, 55, died of an apparent self-inflicted gun-shot wound to the head, said Union County Coroner Darryl Rendleman.

He had been reported missing from Oswego, in northern Illinois, since Sunday, Nov. 9. Oswego police officials said the man’s wife notified them friends, family and his employer was not able to reach him.

His vehicle was found near the scene on Sunday, Nov. 16 and his body was discovered on Monday.

" I think that is was distasteful to include that he died of an apparent self-inflicted gun-shot wound to the head. It just needed to be reported that he was identified. I think it was crude to include this detail without thinking about had all the family been notified yet. It is very disrespect ful for the family to have told them before they found out through the phone. All you had to report was foul play was not suspected. "
