CARBONDALE -- Recreational Sports and Services at Southern Illinois University Carbondale has unveiled its new Web site just in time for the fall 2008 semester. Launched Aug. 1, the site is online at www.reccenter.siu.edu.

With in-house hosting, the new site includes details on all of the upcoming Recreational Sports and Services (RSS) activities as well as information about the SIUC Student Recreation Center. It also features a web page language translator allowing international students, faculty and staff as well as parents and anyone anywhere in the world to view the site in their native language.

Gary D. Tisdale, assistant director of marketing for RSS, encourages people to keep an eye on the new Web site as more changes are coming.

" To Boil Order: That's too bad. I retired from there in 2000 after being there when it first opened. Just about everyone I worked with has retired also. We tried to keep it user friendly and I have heard since there have been problems, many which you have stated. I would term it overkill in my estimation. Some things you make worse by trying to improve on them. "

" The SIUC rec center has changed a lot since we started using it. It has gone from being a place that we enjoyed going to to one that is very regimented and not very friendly. Generally there are more administrators in the building than actual users. Signs are pasted all over the doors on what you can and can't do. Dead and dying trees and bushes line the entrance and no one cares. The beautiful trees that lined the walk way were cut down because someone said they were diseased but the ones replacing them are not to scale nor is the landscaping. The rec center is institutionalized in its attitude and priorities and is far from being a place that is affordable or welcoming as in the past. The tone has changed and we no longer look forward to going there. So that there isn't any mis-understanding, the student workers there are always polite and friendly. "
