Members of the Carbondale Park District Board of Commissioners say applications are in and they expect to begin interviewing candidates for a permanent executive director sometime in the next month.
Commissioner Jim Fralish said Friday that he and other board members are set to review about ten candidates for the job at a meeting this Tuesday.
"We'll be screening candidates and make a decision of how many of the pool we want to invite for an interview," he said. "I think the consensus of the board is that we want to keep it a relatively small number (of interviewees)."
Fralish said that would likely mean no more than three candidates would get invitations for interviews.
Commissioners have said they'd like to have an executive director installed early this fall.
The post has been filled on an interim basis by Kathy Renfro, a ten-year district employee who had been serving as superintendent of recreation for the last two years.
Renfro took over from former director Brian Ramsey, who left in May to take a similar post in Beloit, Wis.
